    communication failed; please try again

In trying to program to a Leviton Vizia RF+ 4-Scene controller, I repeatedly get "communication failed; please try again". Adding it works just fine but when trying to bind scenes/zones to the buttons it only works 1/20 times, if at all. I'm holding the stick literally 1mm away from the 4-scene and still no communication. 3 of the 4 controllers will establish communication after a dozen or so failed attempts but one will not connect at all. Is this a problem in my Wayne Dalton Think Stick? I have another one on the way. Or is this a problem with the software? Hoping to get this resolved before tackling a house with 72 switches and 5 4-scene controllers.

It should like you might have a faulty controller.  Are these mounted in metal or plastic boxes?

I believe plastic. One of the 4 controllers had not yet been mounted in the wall and it was having difficulty communicating with the control think software. I'd suspect it was a controller but all 4 were having difficulty, just some more so than others.
