    Communication bugs

Ever since one of the early 2.1 betas think essentials has been having a hard time communicating with my devices on a regular basis.  The problem seems rather sporadic but usually occurs after think essentials has been open for some time, most of my devices then show a red ? over them and refuse to respond to remote commands showing the circle with a cross over the icons.  The work around I have found is to exit and restart the program then all of my devices are accessible again for a short time.  This isn't a very desirable fix and I was wondering if this is a known bug, and if so when is it due to be corrected.

    Hi Salthi,

I've submitted a trouble ticket to our support site, and will be working to resolve this problem.  I'll be contacting you for more information via PM.  If anyone else is having similar issues, please post them up here, so that we can use this thread as a reference.

     Thanks!

     Hi Salthi,

We're working with our test bench to reproduce the problem.  As soon as we've got something, we'll be sure to let you know.

     Thanks!

    Thinking about this....

Is it possible that this is a hardware problem (i.e a bad ThinkStick)?

I can sit and do F8 in Think Essentials and I have 1 or 2 hops on all devices and all green 100 signal strength for hours, and all of a sudden, I see a different hop-count and question-marks and minimal signal strength on most devices!!?!

    What gives?

Of course, this could be a RF problem, but nothing changed in the house....nothing turned on (no fan, no AC, no cordless phone, no microwave...nothing on the PC, nothing changed).

Could a bad module casue this?

Another question....Does Think Essential initiate a "Optimize and Repair" on its own? If not, how come the hop-count changes all by itself?!

I would assume that it would stay the same unless something changed in the network, either initiated by TE or a module?!?

    Cheers/ Carl

I think it's a software problem, because from what I've seen I can usally contact a module that has gone "offline" by either running the optimize and repair wizard or by shutting down and restarting control essentials.

It's been a over a week now and I haven't heard anything about this being resolved.  Is progress being made?

     Hi Salthi,

We're still working on the fix to this issue.  We're making progress, but it's proving to be diffuclt to track down the exact cause.  We'll be sure to update this thread when we've sorted it out.

    Thanks!

I added 2 thermostats and now a day later after everything was working OK I am getting the same problem.

     Divex,

If you re-starte TE, does the problem go away?

     Thanks,

    Matt

    Re: Communication bugs

Well, it still happens for me. I have re-built my network from scratch and though that seems to have helped some random intermittent communication problems with individual devices, the all-question-mark bug hit me again. This time I noticed that the CPU usage for the ThinkEssentials processes was bouncing up and down from 10% to over 90%.

As usual, quitting the application clears the problem.

    Cheers/ Carl
