Scene, Zone, Schedule information appears lost when TE closed and restarted

I'm a new user of ThinkEssentials (TE) so hopefully I'm just missing something simple here ... whenever I configure TE with information like device locations within a floorplan, scenes, zones, and schedules this information appears lost when I close and restart TE (in other words, when I restart TE I see the floorplan and devices but the devices are not located on the floorplan and the schedules, zones, and scenes are gone).   I've tried backing up and restoring the network settings through TE but all the info still appears lost.  I'm running Standard Edition TE (ver 2.0 build 200) on Windows XP.  What do I need to do to preserve this information?

Also, one additional question ... I'm building up my z-wave network with the USB ThinkStick (primary controller) installed in a laptop but will eventually move the ThinkStick over to a desktop computer.  Can I copy the floorplan, zone, scene, and schedule information from one computer to another without having to recreate it?

     Thanks, Blake

    Blake,

On question one--it sounds like there may be an issue with security permission saving the file.  Were you logged in as Administrator at one point and are now logged in as a standard user?  If so, the data files may be "locked to Administrators only; readonly for standard users" in Windows security speak.

On issue #2--yes, you can backup the network settings to a file--and then restore them to another machine which is running ThinkEssentials if you move the stick.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response.  I was logged in as Administrator during all of my operations ... I did not switch users ... so I would expect these files to save no problem.  What are the files that should be updating (i.e. directory path and name)?  I will check the permissions and will check if the files are updating.

Are these the same files I would need to copy to my second machine when I move the stick?

    Thanks again,

    Blake

The file that you are looking for is "ZWaveNetwork_<yourhomeID>.xml"

    On Vista, it's located at:
    C:\ProgramData\ControlThink\ThinkEssentials\

In Windows XP, it's located at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ControlThink\ThinkEssentials\

I have seen the same problem as well on XP, several times.  I am an administrator and don't even have a limited user account configured on the system, so I don't think it is a file permissions issue.  The XML files are there and do get written with updates.

Also, I am not loosing all configuration information - scheduled events and scenes are still there.  I just seem to loose the rooms I've drawn.
