    Build 2 preview...

We're doing a ton of work for build 2, and I thought I might share a screenshot for your enjoyment.

I added 11 devices to my network (including 3 motion sensors) and moved them to random places on the screen (no floorplan).

    Then I pressed F8.

    Legend:

    • Hop Count represented by #'s (1 = direct range; 2 = direct + 1 hop; 3 = direct + hops; etc.)
    • Color is overall reliability (green = success; yellow = warning; red = error)
    • Fuel gauge (fill level inside ring) is signal success %

Update will be posted this week...

    Chris

    Re: Build 2 preview...

I'm having difficulty typing without drooling on my keyboard.

Is the "hop count" the number of hops from the pertinent device to the ThinkEssentials' controller?

Is the "hop count" constantly updated?  If I move the ThinkEssentials computer around the house, will the hop counts shift around?

I will probably have to do whatever is required to keep the sensors awake during hop count mode.

I might want to tear my network apart again, add only the sensors, add one wired device at a time, and with ThinkEssentials running in my basement wiring closet, use the hop count's fuel gauge to see which wired devices are the most reliable routing nodes to my sensors.  Then I'll see if I can use that information to generate reliable return routes from a minimal network.  Or is that process all going to be automated?

Better yet, I could start with a full network, and see what the effect is on the fuel gauges as I delete each wired device.

Sounds like I'll need to take a day off work this week so I can tinker when my wife isn't around.  She hates my constant Z-Waving.

I want to see if covering the switch plate with a grounded sheet of aluminum foil effectively takes that device out of the route.

    Gary,

The hop count is currently displayed based on hops when the calculations took place--although you can press F8 again when you've moved to recalculate.  This is the "first version" :)

And yes, the hop count is the number of hops from ThinkEssentials to the devices.

Please note that your battery-operated sensors will always show up as "two hops away or more" from your PC since the PC can't detect if they are in direct range (since they are asleep).  However, if you check routes from a device on your network map which is AC-powered, the hop count to the battery-operated sensors can start at one.

Ship it :).  've got some troublesome nodes and this sort of information is exactly what I'm looking for.

If I could ask for one thing more:  When I click on a 2-hops-or-more node, show me the route you would take there and back.   Or give me a way to find it.  But don't wait for that.  Ship it. :)

    Re: Build 2 preview...

    Chris,

2.1.0.2 cashes on start-up form me.  2.1.0.1 did also.   I get the splash screen with the progress bar for about a second and then boom.  I'm running this on Vista SP1 with the Intermatic stick.  Version 2.0 (build 191) works fine.   Anything I can do to help track it down?

    Thanks,

    Bill

I had the same problem with the Intermatic branded stick.  I've just put in the ControlThink stick and now have no problems using the latest version.

We're looking into it.  My guess is that the new 64-bit support code has some glitch in it which is affecting 32-bit systems with the HA22...

    wdb,

Please try the new beta, build 3, which should fix the Intermatic HA22 glitch.
