Pro version installed over non-pro version remains non-pro version

I just received my media for ThinkEssentials 2.0 Professional Edition.  I had a licensed copy of the non-pro edition installed.  After installation, it's still the non-pro version (still has the "upgrade" link, doesn't have a "take over the network", or a "Create a network", etc.).  Part of the problem might be that I don't have an installer stick yet.  But still, that shouldn't interfere with "Create a network", right?

Also, I wasn't prompted for my license key during installation, which makes me think it's retaining the old license.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I've tried rebooting.  No success.

Is there a mechanism for installing pro over top of non-pro?  Failing that, does anyone know where the license key is held?  There isn't an obvious registry entry (I haven't resorted to registry sniffing the application yet, but that's next).

     Suggestions appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi JeffS,

ThinkEssentials works similar to Windows Vista: all editions are installed automatically, and the license key determines which edition is unlocked.

To upgrade from Standard to Professional edition:

    1. Switch to the SETTINGS tab
    2. Click the ABOUT THINKESSENTIALS link
    3. Press the LICENSE KEY button
    4. Enter your new license key

The software should restart automatically as ThinkEssentials Professional.

    P.S.

The "create a new network" feature requires a USB stick with the "installer" firmware.

     That did it.  Thanks.

I've had a similar experience to JeffS.  I received my upgrade license key via email, but I don't have the installer stick yet.

I lost my scenes and zones when I entered the new license key, but TE still reports that its the Standard edition (build 200).

The /background switch that was added to my Vista startup programs doesn't behave as expected.  It opens TE upon startup, inserts a tray icon, and displays a TE UI with no icons and no saved scenes or zones.  Right clicking the TE tray icon and selecting "Open Think Essentials" restores all icons, etc.

Should I have waited for the installer stick before I attempted the upgrade?

    Hi John,

Could you e-mail me your upgrade license key, so I can test it locally?  Maybe we sent you a standard license key by accident...  Could you also send me your order # for the Pro upgrade?

Also, I'm really curious about the behavior of the software when run with the /background command-line argument...  Can you send me a screenshot or two of what is happening?  I've never seen that before...

So I was using a standard license key from the email sent to me for the SDK.  That problem is solved.

I've emailed Chris screenshots of the problem I'm seeing when using the background switch.  I've reloaded standard from disk, but I still see the same behavior.
