I haven't worked with the Hail Events method. Sounds interesting. I thought z-wave technology was about making progress. But I'm disappointed to see things like network alerts not broadcast when a person physically dims or turns off a light. I'm not sure if that's the z-wave specification, or limitations of the ThinkStick.

After answering your question, I stayed up Friday night testing most of the recent versions of the SDK, and discovered something I was unaware of.

Version 1.2.0.265 does support level changed events correctly.

Version 1.3.0.0 appears to support level changed events correctly.

Version 1.3.0.2, Version 1.3.0.6, and Version 1.3.0.7 do not support level changed events correctly.

Version 1.3.0.11 does support level changed events, but you must setup hail events in order to get level changed events.

Version 1.3.0.23 does not support level changed events, but according to the release note from ControlThink it does support hail events. I was not able to make it work. It could be that something else has to be enabled to get the events working in 1.3.0.23, but I haven't discovered what it is yet, and ControlThink hasn't been much help telling us what we need to change to make hail events and level changed events work in 1.3.0.23.

So my suggerstion to you is to use 1.3.0.11, but you will have to enable the hail events. Since you are using a thermostatV2, Version 1.3.0.11 is probably your best bet since 1.2.0.265 does not support V2 thermostats. But if you want level changed events, remember to enable the hail events, which did not work correctly until 1.3.0.11.

Thanks, alfie! You are a valuable contributor on the forums. It seems you have made a commitment to the ControlThink SDK product. I'm trying to do the same - developing great software to manage Z-Wave devices. I just hope ControlThink and Leviton join us and step up their efforts!!!

I have ThinkSticks that report Z-Wave version 4.27. Is there just 4.27 and 4.30? Maybe I shouldn't upgrade. And if I downgrade the SDK I'm not sure how that changes my Wayne Dalton thermostat support and features.

I just tested a LevelChanged event with a multiswitch, but it reported the level it was at, not what it changed to (not much help). I guess I need to just test a Fortrezz water sensor to see what happens. Their support hadn't heard of ControlThink.

Level changed events do not work in SDK1.3 when you add a controller to the device's groups(1) collection.

However level changed events do work with the 1.2.0.265 version of the SDK, but from what I've seen you'll need an old ThinkStick since the one I just bought does not work correctly with the 1.2.0.265 version of the SDK. Since I have not upgraded my old ThinkSticks with the newest firmware, and they still work correctly, my assumption is that the firmware on the ThinkSticks you purchase now no longer support level changed events, but then neither does the SDK.

Can you tell me if the SDK1.3 will respond to an event broadcast by the Fortrezz WWA-001 water sensor?

According to their website, "The WWA-01 sends the Basic Set Command to the associated nodes assigned to Group1 to convey that a Water Alarm is active. If no nodes are assigned to Group 1, then an Alarm Sensor report (Sensor Type 0x05) is broadcast."
