Sorry, but I don't have any info I can share regarding pricing on the Vizia RF Foyer.

Homeremote provides scene, simple macro capability, not only web based internet connectivity. Does Vizia RF Foyer provide standalone scene and macro capability without PC software?

    kruenai,

I'm sorry, I can't give out details on the features--but you can expect that it supports a number of those types of features too.

Re: Microsoft promotional video: Leviton Vizia RF Foyer

I would definitely like to see the fine details but it sounds suspiciously like the hawking box and cell link except you have to run a pc for it in this case.  will it handle video also by chance?  will there be a subscription service for any of the remote access via internet or cell phone?

What I am curious about is how the .wmv shows the garage listed as a control.  I went through this process with the wayne dalton z-wave garage door conversion kit and the hawking box.  according to both product managers it is against the law to remotely control your garage door via the internet/cellular.  I went back and forth a few times and have extremely lengthy emails regarding this and the law about it.  has something changed on the laws regarding this Chris?

also, do you have the link for the wayne dalton ethernet gateway?  i can't seem to find it on the net yet.  any screenshots? pricing info? tech specs? etc.

I think it's very similar to hawaking's homeremote.

    Wayne Dalton Home Gateway
Next, I saw the Wayne Dalton Home Gateway product. This device will connect to the house and automatically creates a Z-Wave network for scenes, controls the will respond to various Z-Wave triggers, time related events, etc...

So for instance it will enable you to perform logic with Z-Wave devices plus it connects to the internet and has a built in web-server which will enable remote access. It will also perform functions such as Email based on a Z-Wave trigger.

This device will also "heal" the Z-Wave network if it "sees" a device that is failing.

In March they will display touch screens with this product at a home builder's show.

It is not marketed with the DIY person in mind, rather for new home builds and installers.

syner, we don't advertise that Z-Wave can open/close your garage door :)

There is some work afoot to add support for encrypted/authenticated locks with Z-Wave; more news on that as it is available...

As I've mentioned in another thread I haven't even been able to get my HomeRemote working.  :-(  It may be related to using the 890, but ControlThink has no problem with it...

Foyer + ControlThink will solve this problem I think.

    syner,

On re-reading your post, I wanted to add two quick thoughts:

    1. The Vizia RF Foyer does not require a PC for setup or use, including Internet-based use.
    2. The Garage Door that you see in the video is just showing you whether or not the garage door is open.  In that particular instance, you can't open/close it if the security/legal constructs prohibit it.

Re: Microsoft promotional video: Leviton Vizia RF Foyer

    Chris,

    Thanks for clarifying.

    1. I actually meant using controlthink thinkessentials when mentioning using a pc. the foyer is just an add on in the context the thread was using it in.  Do you have an appliance for controlthink thinkessentials where i would not have to run a full pc 24/7?  A full blown pc 24/7 seems like overkill - PC $ expense, Watt $ expense, etc.  I would enjoy looking into that.

    2. I see.  So if it is open on my cell phone then what?  Other than notification how could i actually close it remotely other than a z-wave keychain within 30m of my home?  The video shows the guy looking at it on his cell phone at work.

    3. Townshend, i have had some small issues with the hawking box but nothing like the problems with the 890 which doesn't even support z-wave anymore by the way.  stay away from the firmware updates if you want to keep using it with any z-wave device nevermind controlthink or the hawking box.  here is a link for more info http://board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=124655

    Kurenai,

Chris any new details on this unit?

    Syner,

A device like the Vizia RF Foyer is what you're looking for if you need to run schedules, events, etc. 24/7 without a PC.  Our ThinkBox hardware platform would also do the trick--although we don't have a release date on it.

Until the garage door opener companies feel comfortable opening up "remote access control" of garage doors, you'd need to DIY to open/close the garage door remotely.

    Chris,

According to this article "The Vizia RF Foyer connects to an Internet-linked PC or laptop through the computer’s Ethernet port and transmits signals to a Z-Wave home control network. " - the foyer does need a pc to function properly.  is this article wrong?

    syner,

That means that if you have a PC at work it is possible to connect to and control your home through the Foyer.  The Vizia RF Foyer itself does not require a computer to operate.

Re: Microsoft promotional video: Leviton Vizia RF Foyer

got it. thanks. so does the foyer incorporate a stripped down version of thinkessentials or something?  how would i actually control the foyer?  is the foyer just a z-wave rf chip or does it include some kind of built in control functionality?  i am still confused as to how this product works.  is it an appliance like the hawking, wayne dalton boxes or do i need something running some control software external to the foyer to control the functions...

Re: Microsoft promotional video: Leviton Vizia RF Foyer

The Foyer is a product in development, so I can't elaborate much--but briefly:

The Foyer runs on the .NET Micro Framework, so it has lots of intelligence.  It has timers, for instance, and runs a number of background processes.  It's an appliance, a Z-Wave Bridge, and more.  You can set it up via ThinkEssentials, and you can set up some things via standard Z-Wave profiles.
