    Wayne-Dalton WDTC-20 Z-Wave Thermostat

    Hi,

Has anyone tried the new WDTC-20 with the Z-Wave SDK?  I've got my eye on this thermostat and was wondering how good the support was for it in the current SDK (or the 1.3 Beta, for that matter).

    Thanks,

    -WindowWasher

The 1.3 SDK supports the new energy saving thermostats including the Wayne-Dalton version.

It should show up as a ControlThink.ZWave.Devices.Specific.GeneralThermostatV2.  Settings Level to 255 puts it in comfort mode; setting Level to 0 puts it in energy saving mode.

    Re: Wayne-Dalton WDTC-20 Z-Wave Thermostat

I am using this thermostat with the 1.3.0.11 / 9/24/2008 build of the beta SDK and it enumerates this device as a ControlThink.ZWave.Devices.Thermostat instead of ControlThink.ZWave.Devices.Specific.GeneralThermostatV2.

Am I doing something wrong or is the thermostat simply not being recognized?

The back says of the Thermostat says:

    WDTC-20 Thermostat

    SW V6.0

    2708

    ron,

Did you add the thermostat using your computer?  The reason I ask: if you added it in with a really old Z-Wave remote (like the original ACT/Sylvania remotes), it doesn't understand the "specific" portion of the device type so it would show up this way.

Also, when you added it in did you use the special "compatibility mode" where it can be used with older Z-Wave remotes emulating an on/off light switch or did you add it in normally (tapping the BIND button, not holding it)?

Yep I used the 'old' ? Sylvania. Don't tell me that stuff doesn't work anymore Sad

What is a controller that is good & current and somewhat future proof, if there is such a thing?

    ron,

Just about any other modern remote understands how to add the more advanced devices.  Your best bet is to use the software on a notebook and add/remove devices from there--but that doesn't work too well if you have a desktop :)

I tried using Add Device on the simpleControllerCS example but that fails (even with the controller very close to the thermostat). I removed the Thermostat from the Network before trying to Add it through the PC. Any ideas?

    ron,

Just to make things simple, do you have a copy of ThinkEssentials that you can use?

Also, try using the Remove Device feature in the example to ensure that the device is "really reset" (it will reset it by "removing it" from the other network) first.

    ron,

Please try the ZWaveController.RemoveDevice function on the device first, just to make sure it's really really reset.

    Re: Wayne-Dalton WDTC-20 Z-Wave Thermostat

Is there a beta version that allows the temperature to be set from the control think software interface instead of have to walk over to the thermostat and set one home temp and one away temp?

     Thanks

    Hi divex,

You can do this with the SDK, and we'll be adding this capability to an upcoming ThinkEssentials release.

I couldn't find an answer to Ron's orginal problem so I am posting here as well.

    My situation:

    WDTC-20 Thermostat

    USB Dongle HA22

Using SDK to connect thermostat with quick bind (not 4 second)

how do I control temp on this thermostat if it shows up as a thermostat instead of a specific.generalthermostat?

     Thanks,

    Brian

    Brian,

Are you adding the device using the USB stick or via a remote control?  If via a remote, what type?

No remote used, everything is through the USB.
