    TE on Desktop

One of my frustrations with zwave is that you have to have the controller close to the device when joining it to the network. This has been frustrating as I am running TE as primary controller on a desktop machine. I've found a solution. I picked up a usb over cat5 extender that claims it can extend USB 150'. It is for USB 1.1. It works fine for me with my Thinkstick! I can now both run TE on my desktop and join devices anywhere in my house!

    Nice :)

Would it be nicer if we made it so that you could add devices with a portable remote and then those changes would sync automatically with the software?

I know that I would like that especially if you kept pro installers in mind when developing such a controller.

That would be nicer, without a doubt. That would save the running through the house and up and down the stairs.

Would being able to switch the primary from the remote to the TE and back be enough?

I don't think so.  Not if the goal is to have specific scenes from TE assigned to specific/limited scene buttons on the remote you're using (ie 9 buttons on the CA5500R; 12 on the HA07).

But, it's a really good start.
