    A question about control..

    Hi All

As noted by Pirelli: "Power is nothing without control" and this has got me thinking.... I have recently cut my ties with 6 infra-red remotes in favor of a wonderful RF unit from Pronto which takes care of everything. Given the potential of the ControlThink product, I would hate to be labored with yet another device to control my Z-wave devices.

Is the option being considered of providing an interface for system control to devices such as those from Philips, Logitech, Crestron etc.?

    Re: A question about control..

logitech already controls z-wave devices albeat extremely limited in the 890 and 890pro.

i have asked around about integrating philips via rs232 but haven't heard much in response. the rf for philips is 802.11g, not 900Mhz.  crestron went the route of zigbee from what i can see.

worthington distribution did put out a software for the nevo line for z-wave control but it is 1way right now which kind of defeats half the purpose of z-wave, acks.

i have been searching for the holy grail of handheld z-wave_a/v remotes for about a year now and the 890pro is the closest i have found so far.

    Hi synergistic

Thanks for your reply. I too looked for a perfect solution for Z-wave control integration but came up empty handed. Harmony was okay but not good enough so I chose the Pronto Pro (a wonder but expensive piece of hardware). All the theControlThink server needs is some interface like that from SlimDevices and an IP-based interface isboth possible and very flexible.

    Re: A question about control..

After spending some time at CEDIA on exactly this topic I think I may have found my solution (albeit it's a bit on the expensive side).  The Nevo s70 seems to be headed in the right direction in terms of z-wave support and supposedly the people here at ControlThink are working on them to actually support true scenes, but I don't think it's there quite yet.    I just received my s70 and am still ramping up on the programming, but so far I'm much happier with it than the Monster AVL-300's I currently use.  The Monter remotes are probably fine for simple installations such as a couple of lights in a media room, but they don't have near the power or customizability of the Nevo.  I have a whole house full of z-wave stuff with more planned which according to the level 2 support people I've worked with at Monster is well beyond the design intention of the AVL-300.  Even simple things like allowing ThinkEssentials to optimize the network apparently can't be done with theAVL-300 whereas according to the people I talked to at the show the Nevo will allow.
