    Re: Computerless ControlThink?

Well after spending much time digging through the forums i still cant seem to find it, if my memory serves me (and it doesnt) it was a black box about the size of a CD changer and i belive it had a screen on it (couldnt tell you what for) but this system would utilize you control think USB stick and you would need a PC. it was kinda like a miniature PC if you will, a sort of stand alone system,

Does anyone recall this? am i loosin my mind?

I think you're thinking about ThinkBox and/or the Vizia RF Foyer (as Gary said).

Why yes Chris i do think you have unveiled the one i was looking for, the thinkbox. do you know if its any good or if it is junk?, im wanting to loose my peer to peer server (windows XP Pro) and replace it with the new HP Home server (windows server home) and i dont think controlthink and thinkessentials will work on the server OS. im switching everything over to stand alone systems anyway such as my security cameras and the DVR for those.

Thank you very much for the assistance!

Just FYI, I'm running ThinkEssentials 2.1 beta at home on my HP MediaSmart home server.

Hopefully we never ship any hardware that's "junk" :)  We're currently reworking the ThinkBox line--but I'll post here when we have new product lines available.

    Chris,

Having no experiance with WHS, I would love to hear more how you do this?

I'm considering NOT getting a dedicated mini-itx PC for ThinkEssentials and instead replace my current NAS drives with a HP MediaServer to work as both NAS and ThinkEssential server....

Is it possible to access ThinkEssential remotely doing this?

    Cheers/ Carl

    Re: Computerless ControlThink?

I'm using the HP machine via "remote desktop connection," and ThinkEssentials 2.1 runs just fine on it with a ThinkStick.  Just remember to "log in" so it runs in the background...
