    z-wave newbie issue

Hello. I just received my first Z-wave products. I ordered the  Intermatic HA22 USB Stick and 1 HA03 Lamp Module so I could just play around with them. The stick came with the ThinkEssentials software. I got the driver and software installed and the software recognizes the stick. I plugged the lamp module into a wall plug right next to my computer and plugged a lamp into it. In the software I clicked “Add Device”, a window pops up that says “Press the button on the device.” When I do that nothing happens. I’ve pressed the button, held the button, pressed it multiple times, etc and still nothing. Is there something I’m missing? Thanks. -Scott

The lamp module may have been tested but not reset during manufacturing.  Try "removing" it first, and then adding it in.  "Removing" it will reset it if it's on another network, like the one they use in the production line.

If that doesn't work, try putting the USB stick on an extension cable and placing it about 4-6" from the device and see if that works.  Or as a last effort, use a remote to set up the network and then add the computer using the remote.

Also, be sure to download the latest ThinkEssentials software:

The current verison is a free upgrade.

That was it. I removed it and was then able to add it. I would recommend that you consider adding that as a side note in the user manual.

    Thanks!
