Chris,

 What is a "New GeneralThermostatV2 device type (energy saving thermostat)".  can you elaborate and give a manufacturer example?

also, i picked up a z-wave motor shade from draper and i can control it with a leviton remote however if i try to use mcontrol it shows up as a MultipositionMotor instead of as a dimmer like the leviton remote and i cannot control it.  when i go into the editor and choose a class it still falls under dimmer instead of shades.  i get an option for on/off as well as dim control 0-99 but nothing works.  any ideas?

MultipositionMotor is a special type of "dimmer" in the Z-Wave world.  It's pretty much exactly the same as a dimmer except:

1. You can "dim" or "brighten" forever, and the motor will just keep turning--unless there's an endpoint like on a drape where it stops at the top/bottom.
2. Sending a generic "on" message will move the motor control to the "fully open" position on window coverings instead of returning to the last position.

You should be able to open/close, etc. without any issues using both ThinkEssentials and the Z-Wave PC SDK.  Do you have a copy of ThinkEssentials?  If so, can you test it with ThinkEssentials and let me know if that works for you--as a baseline?

A GeneralThermostatV2 is basically exactly like the first-gen GeneralThermostat device profile but it has one new feature:

1. The thermostats have an "energy saving" mode.  Set the Level to 255 to put it in "normal/comfort" mode and set Level to 0 to put it in "energy saving" mode. 

A number of manufacturers are working on them.  One production-ready model we have here in the lab has two sets of set points for heat, two sets for cool, etc.  Switching into and out of energy saving mode basically switches between the set points for the current mode.

that definitely explains what is going on in my case.  i did not try with thinkessentials.  i bought a new drive and dual booted xp/vista to try out mcontrol so i never got around to reinstalling thinkessentials.  i will have to check it out.  does thinkessentials show what z-wave classification it falls under?

thanks Chris but what exactly does 'energy saving' mode do?

i added it to thinkessentials pro and it shows up as what i guess is supposed to be an icon for a shade.  it is basically a square array 3x3 but i cannot control it.  it works fine via the leviton remote.

how can i check what class it shows up as?

If you click on the icon, does it go up and down at all--or does it not respond?

Could you e-mail me a screenshot of what it looks like?  We should probably file a "bug report" and see if we can add support for it...

when click the icon i either get a bunch of dots in a circle or a dimmer slide.  when i slide it nothing happens.

Bizarre.  Is it Z-Wave Certified?  Do you know where we can get one to test?
