    Problems With Programming

     Hello All,

I have been playing with zwave for a about a year and have become a true fan.  I recently purchased the "ControlThink" Z-wave PC SDK Software which seems to have a few bugs I have not been able to work out yet.  I have hopes this forum can help me out.  Thank you for your help.

    1)  I have a group that is to control my outdoor lights.  They come on at the right times but not at the PRESET levels I have set for them, why?

    2)  If I want to set up a group for movies can i have it turn off some lights while dimming other, and turning on others?  IT seems that I can not get it to turn off lamps that were in the on position when I hit the on position for that zone.

     3)  I have a few groups that are not coming on as I have them programmed.

Thank you for any assistance you can lend.  I want to get to online controlling but i want to get these things worked out first.

    Thank you,

    HSB,

    Welcome to the forums!

Are there questions regarding the SDK (i.e. writing your own code) or the ThinkEssentials software?

If they're regarding the SDK, could you please provide some of your code; a few of our forums members are good at pitching in regarding code solutions...

    P.S.

If you are using ThinkEssentials to turn the groups on/off, what you really want are SCENES, not GROUPS/ZONES.  Groups/zones only turn things on/off.  Scenes turn things on to preset levels--and some devices in those scenes can actually be "off" as a level.

    Re: Problems With Programming

thank you Chris for the quick response!

I may not have all the information on how to set up the scenes, example.  I want a living room lamp to come on at 50% with my bedroom lights coming on at 50%, and my outside door lights coming on at 50%, all at sunset.  What i have done is set up the door lights on a seperate group because i want them to stay on and go off at sunrise.  In the scene set up unless i have missed it it does not give me the option to turn them off at a certain time.  Have I just not read with depth in the manual, or do i just not understand the concept here?  Thank you!

I am using the ThinkEssentials software.  I want to get a grasp on that before i get any deeper.

    Thank you,

    HSB,

Just create a second scene with the same lights in the "off" position and activate that second scene when you want to turn them off...

Thank you Chris for your support!

Am I stuck on stupid here?  When I go to do a scene, I select a light to operate, I select the light, then it gives me the options for Activate, group on, group off.  But for some reason does not save that setting or scene.  Do you know what I am failing to do?

    Sid,

When you create the scene, press the highlighted scene button again to save when you're done.

Did that answer the right question?

I am not sure I will check it out shortly and see.  I have problems saving the scene thats for sure.  I am not sure that I am saving it the right sequence either.  I will let you know.
