What forums would you like to see?

We are thinking about creating a number of forums here relevant to our upcoming product line.

Initially, our thoughts are to cover:

    • Our products
    • News regarding our products
    • Z-Wave technology in general
    • Forums for Z-Wave products from various manufacturers
    • "Monster Garage" -- show off your installations and projects
    • Etc.

What, both from this list and otherwise, would you like to see?

How about an Elk forum. :)

I would like to see a bugs forum that is organized.  As you check the messages in the forum then you would add a prefix to the title of the message such as PENDING:, RESOLVED:, FEATURE(Not a Bug).  This would allow your users to keep track of all you bugs which may seem like a bad think to you guys at first but from a customers view I think being open shows that you will do your best to fix the bug ASAP.

General off topic chat - Maybe just a place to say Hi.

    Off-topic sounds great.

For a bug report forum, I really like that idea.  We could do exactly what you said--mark them as resolved as we go, and at least acknowledged otherwise.

Then, we could do a "rollup" of all the bugs and fixes into the release notes for each new release--and retire the bug threads since they would no longer be needed.  This would also keep things on topic since people would not want not want thier off-topic posts lost when the threads were retired :)

I like being very open, both about the good and any potential issues that are being worked-through.  I think we'll set this system up for even the private beta forums for now as well.

perhaps a dealer/installer forum.  I noticed squintz is looking into a home automation business (as many of us have thought about).  This would be a great area to discuss different ideas or strategies on running a home automation business.

I second the dealer installer forum.  I have started taking the baby steps to start my own installer business.  It would be great if you guys could bring some professional training to the maryland area.  I know that you had ties with something in DC so maybe some training in the DC area.  I am looking for all the training I can get right now :)

    rustytek, Squintz:

Dealer and installer forums sound good.  Also, off topic (per all suggestions for it here) should be a go . . .

Squintz: we have now implemented this strategy.  In the beta forums, we have started to identify each topic with the headline "PENDING:" until they are resolved, and then we'll be rolling those up into a "new release" thread once they have been implemented (or we may wait for a while on some of them after resolution before we remove them, etc.).

This is great feedback, everyone.  Keep it coming; it's much appreciated.
