Help with USB as Secondary Controller

    Hi,

My HA07 is the Primary Controller and I've copied all the Network, Channel & Scene information to the USB, using the software, successfully.  I've drawn my rooms but all 12ea. device icons, in the lower right hand corner, look like like light bulbs with red circles and cross-bars through them.  When I click on them they do nothing.  At one point, I saw a red question mark icon instead but it disappeared.

I've read the documentation and maybe the USB is not recognizing my 12ea. HA06 wall switch dimmers?  The User Guide says to download updates from the ControlThink Support page for new devices, but the page is not where the link sends me.  I don't know.  But my Primary Controller and all devices are working great, it's only my Secondary USB controller & software that is giving me problems.  How can I sync BOTH controllers to operate the devices?

     Sincerely,

    Ted

    Ted,

Try re-copying the primary remote over to the computer.  Also, is your computer within 20 feet of at least one of the devices?

If you're getting the red "circle/slash" on your icons, it means that the computer can't reach them through the USB stick.

Also, what version of the software are you running?

    Chris,

Thanks for the quick response.  The USB is very close to the first device (about 15ft) and the Primary Controller (the HA07) has NO PROBLEM communicating to all the devices from all over the house.

    The software is V.1.1.153

     P.S.

I've copied the Network and Channel information multiple times already using both methods.  I've copied via the "Join Existing Network" tab and also via the "Receive Network Update" tab.

    Hi Ted,

Could you do two things really quick?

    1. Can you download the 2.0 beta release and see if that works for you on your machine?
    2. Is your computer a notebook?  If so, can you move within 2-3 feet of a device and try to control it on-screen?  If you hit F5, it should "refresh" all the icons.

    Hi Chris,

I just downloaded 2.1 (build9) onto my notebook and tried it within 2-3 of each device and still NOTHING but red circles and slashes around the device icons.

     Please help.

What USB adapter are you using?  ThinkStick?

Since you can copy the remote to the PC, the antenna appears to be working.  This is a very curious issue.

I'm using the HA22 that came with ThinkEssentials software.  I'm an Intermatic distributor and purchased 5 of these units to sell to my customers, but I haven't gotten the 1st one to work yet.  Intermatic says the HA22's work fine, just not as "fast" as your ThinkStick.

    Ted,

Can you try one of your other HA22s?  My guess is that it's a bad antenna in the USB stick you're using--and is just a fluke...

Re: Help with USB as Secondary Controller

     Hi Chris,

Before I could try your suggestion to use another HA22, I tried something else at my own home where the HA07 has been scheduling events to about 9 devices successfully for months:

    1) I reset the HA22 and the HA07 to factory defaults

    2) I used the Z-Troller (HomeSeer) Primary to create a new Network and optimize (discover their neighbors) all the nodes.

    3) I transferred the Primary from the Z-Troller to the HA22 (with current drivers from Intermatic's website) using TE2.1(build9).

    4) And "WAL-AAA" everything worked wonderfully.  I set up some cool scenes and innovative schedules that were lacking in the HA07.

    5) I noticed some instability with the red question marks appearing randomly and then disappearing for no apparent reason, so I created a secondary with the HA07 to conveniently turn things on and off as I monitored the scheduling setup for a few days.  Everything seemed to be working very good.

    6)  The next day in preparation for my first "live" scheduled event, I decided to backup the setup from my XP(SP2) notebook to another XP(SP2) desktop that stays on 24/7 (both running current drivers for the HA22 and both running TE2.1-build9).  All of the devices are located in the living room in the center of the house.  The notebook is located approximately 30 ft (down a hallway) to the north of the living room and the desktop is located approximately 20 ft to the south of the living room so I'm not convinced that "distance" or "obstacles" is the problem.

    7) That's when things turned from "flakey" to "scary"..........Most all of the red question marks turn to broken devices when trying to activate them and optimizing does NOT seem to help matters.

The strange thing is that when I activate a scene, about half of the devices respond and actually turn the lights on or off but the red broken device symbol appears and disappears randomly as if it has a mind of it's own.

Do I need to invest in your ThinkStick and Pro software to get this thing to work?  Or is it something else?

    Greatly appreciative of your assistance.

     P.S.

And where is the support for "associations" that I've been waiting for?

    Ted,

Please try one of your other HA22's.  You could also pick up a ThinkStick (which we can support/warranty) and we can go from there...

We have association support for the Vizia RF/Vizia RF + devices built into the TE 2.1 release candidate (build 9+).  We're working on adding it for other device types as well in an upcoming release.

Re: Help with USB as Secondary Controller

    Hi Chris,

I DIDN'T follow your advice because I suspected that my TE installation was corrupt on my 24/7 desktop....

So I uninstalled  then reinstalled the software to 2.1(build11).

I re-created my network from scratch using the Z-troller and Z-Tool (to add devices and to opitimize routing) on my laptop and then copy the Primary over to the HA22 and everything works wonderfully now.

I've been monitoring the 5 daily scenes everyday for about a week now and the setup seems to be working flawlessly.  I absolutely love the features of your software and the ease of modifying schedules!  Thank you for a great product.  I now feel confident to upgrade my existing clients to your software that I purchase from Intermatic (bundled with the HA22).  I'm also using the HA07 as a secondary remote just-in-case I need to make a quick adjustment to the lighting (ie. all-on or all-off), but your software and the unlimited quantity of scenes works so good that I haven't had to use it much.

My wife had the complaint that the living room lights came on too late when I was using the HA07 to schedule all the lights at Sunset (we don't have much natural light in that room and we're getting older...).  But now, using your TE software, I can schedule the living room lights to come on at the exact brightness and time that she wants them when she gets home from work.  And I can still have the yard lights and bedroom night-lights to come on at Sunset as before.....adjusting the brightness levels accordingly as our eyes adjust to the setting sun each day.  It's absolutely beautiful!  Thank you again.

I have one more question.  I noticed that Build 15 is out and I'll be upgrading.....but when will Association Support for Intermatic devices be included?

    Hi TedsLtg,

It sounds like things are looking up for you--great news.  And thanks for the compliments on our software.

We're working on adding "association support" in a version of the software a bit later this year.  I'll post about it here when it's ready...
